Intercultural Ministry
We, at West Point Grey United, strive to become an intercultural church where our differences are affirmed and celebrated. We understand that culture is much more than food, clothing and festivals; it is about our identity and boundary. We want to create a safe, welcoming faith community that we call our home. In this intercultural ministry, we open ourselves to the joys of celebrating and affirming our differences and working together for God’s mission.
To becoming an intercultural church, we diligently sow seeds of hope: seeds of decolonizing ourselves; seeds of affirming varieties of sexual orientation; seeds of reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples; seeds of celebrating different faith traditions and seeds of respect in Creation. Will you join us in this exciting journey!
Music Ministry
Music is an integral part of worship and community life at West Point Grey United Church. All are warmly invited to participate in our Music Ministry, led by Music Director Dr. Eileen Padgett. Our services feature our Adult Choir and Sunday instrumentalists, and special musical offerings from the Lily Choir, Ukuleles United group, ESL choir, and soloists from within and beyond our church. With our wonderful sanctuary acoustics, and beautifully maintained Casavant pipe Organ and Grotrian grand piano, West Point Grey United Church is home to many a joyful sound!
Seniors Ministry – TLC
The Lunch Club (TLC) for seniors reached its 23rd birthday on April 1st in 2021. We meet every Thursday 10:30am – 1:00pm and during Covid we have been meeting on ZOOM. As some seniors do not have access to ZOOM we are a smaller group but are hoping that WPGUC will be able to open in the fall and we will have hot and delicious lunches again along with our interesting programming to keep us all socially and mentally active. Bring a friend . . . make a friend!
ESL Conversation
The ESL Beginner class meets Tuesday at 10am-11:30am via WeChat group chatting, using the textbook Side by Side, Book 3. (Don’t worry that you cannot catch up; most lessons in Book 3 are a review Books 1 & 2). We use English to teach and learn and Chinese to explain key points and difficulties. Our class is friendly and productive, especially for new immigrants. You will not only learn English, but also understand new cultures and make new friends.
The Upper Intermediate-Advanced ESL Conversation class meets Fridays from 9:30-11:30 during the school term. It is a welcoming place to practice conversational English with Canadian speakers from our church. Please contact the Church Office at 604-224-4388 for information about dates and cost.
