Reconciliation Group
Since 2013 and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s cross-Canada tour, our Reconciliation Committee has been committed to working with the WPGUC congregation on Reconciliation education and projects including:
- Learning about First Nations, Métis and Inuit issues and the devastating effects of colonialism
- Celebrating the Indigenous cultures of Canada
- Helping needy elementary-age school students by donating to the Vancouver Board of Education’s Indigenous Programs Department.
We invite everyone to participate with us. Call the Church Office 604-224-4388 to speak with a member of the committee.
Refugee Settlement
Our church works together with other Westside churches to sponsor refugees to come to Canada and help them settle into life here. We are helping a young family from Syria and will be welcoming others soon. We are currently raising funds to sponsor their brother Mahmoud, a young Syrian man who is not safe in Turkey. Donations may be sent to donate@wpguc.com. If you would like to find out more, please contact the church office at 604-224-4388.
Sock Fund
For over 15 years, West Point Grey United Church has committed to providing a minimum of 3,000 pairs of new socks to the Footcare Program at First United Mission in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver. Good foot care is essential, particularly to those living on the streets. Please help by bringing new warm socks for men or women to the church office or by making a donation to the WPG Sock Fund using the Give button. Tax receipts are available for donations of $10 or more.
Affirming for LGBTQ2S+
West Point Grey United Church is committed to being a safe and welcoming community for all. As part of our ongoing social justice work, the Affirming Committee guides our congregation in learning about LGBTQ2SIA+ issues, advocating for equality, and finding ways to make our church more inclusive. Our goal is to join the network of Affirming Ministries who work for the full inclusion of people of all gender identities and sexual orientations in the United Church of Canada and in society.
